About Quieter Moments

Out and about on everyday errands, I spotted a shop sign "Elegant Stitch" in Modesto, CA. I stopped, jumped out and found they were only preparing to open. I made a note about the opening and their hours. It had been years since I cross-stitched. It was a lot of fun when my sister introduced me to it back in the 80's. My family and friends had the results hanging on their walls or stuck in books to mark a spot.

Lois, the owner, opened Elegant Stitch on schedule. And not long after I stopped in. Lois says it was "fate"; I say it was "God's providence". But I almost walked out! Did she carry aida? No, linen. And just cross-stitch? No, all these fancy "new-to-me" stitches. Should I dare to try? Well, I looked and looked and finally found a Shepherd's Bush tiny leaflet. But small didn't mean easy and Lois had to find another suited for a novice. She showed me how to do every stitch on a practice cloth and sent me home with a package of goodies.

After finishing that beginning piece, four tiny leaflets from Shepherd's Bush and lots of doodles with plenty of help from Lois, Annie and the other ladies at Elegant Stitch, Quieter Moments began in 2004.

I think while God allows some people to explore His creation with amazing machines like electronic microscopes or the huge telescopes of today, He has let me explore some of His very simple shapes with a needle and thread on fabric.
